Nash Industries, NIC: $77.28; +22.68

Carter Jeffries, CJY: $50.68; +10.12

Kim: Hello and thanks for joining me for this special extended edition of MarketWatch Journal. I’m your host today, Kim Lubbers.

After the stunning events of the yesterday’s shareholder meeting for Nash Industries, we have developing news that has already impacted global markets.

At a 3 pm press conference held outside the global headquarters of the investment bank Carter Jeffries, its CEO, Natalie Stone, Liam Nash who may or may not still be the CEO of Nash Industries, and Apollo Kane, the CEO of Kane Acquisitions, detailed their plans for the future.

Cut to a shot of Natalie Stone at a podium surrounded by multiple microphones and reporters:

Natalie: As many of you know, our investment bank was caught in one of the most compelling corporate takeovers on Wall Street in a long time. I use the term ‘was’ because after many hours over very vigorous and heated…discussion…we have come up with a solution that we believe will benefit shareholders, employees, management, and the American public at large. Let me just just say before I turn the microphone over to Liam Nash that I have relinquished my position as interim CEO of Nash Industries and Liam will be taking up that role. I’ll turn it over to Liam now.

Natalie moving to side as Liam steps to podium: Thank you Ms. Stone. Ladies and gentlemen, Nash Industries has been around for a long time. We make steel. We pay our employees fairly. We provide benefits that we think is commensurate in todays day and age for people who sweat, toil, and labor for us. In doing this, we are different from our competitors in that our costs are higher. Until recently, this made us a perfect target for takeover attempts by corporate raiders, who believed that they could purchase the company, slash spending, and then sell the component pieces. Apollo Kane had such a plan. He and I have not always seen eye to eye on everything. But that’s fine. Because we were able to come together and come up with a solution.

(Pause)

We’re going to build planes at Nash Industries. That’s right, ladies and gentlemen. You heard me. We’re going to build planes. We’re going to build ships. We’re going to build cars. Oil pipelines. Components for bridges and tunnels. But for too long, Nash Industries has not evolved. We haven’t changed with the times. As other companies rushed out of America we stayed. But we didn’t make ourselves more competitive. By branching out into other industries using our own steel, we will be competitive.

I’m going to turn it over to Apollo now to give the specifics.

Liam moves aside as Apollo takes the podium: Thank you, Mr. Nash.

(pause)

As Liam said, Nash Industries will be building. And boy will it be building. But this takeover fight and the fact that their costs and margins are already so high will present a challenge.
